Course Overview:
Part 1:
Is your resume telling a cohesive story? Are you struggling to know what story it should tell?
Often, we struggle to leverage our resumes in a way that highlights we are ready for the next phase of our career.
This is a common barrier for:
People transitioning into new fields
People seeking a promotion
Let’s get together to identify and explain your cohesive professional story. This will guide all elements of your perfect resume. Additionally, you can apply these tactics to your portfolio and LinkedIn.
Part 2:
Now that you have identified your professional story, how do you turn it into a personal statement?
A concise personal statement answers two big questions:
What experience do you bring to the table?
What are you looking for in your next position?
We’ll discuss what elements to include in your personal statement, and how best to implement them.
Part 3:
Including relevant work experience helps you tailor your resume to the specific job you're applying for. By highlighting experiences that directly align with a job’s requirements, you can demonstrate your suitability and increase your chances of being selected for an interview.
Since your work experience is the largest section of your resume, we will devote 2 sessions to this topic.
During this session we will practice:
Selecting the best elements of your work experience for your resume
Strategies for aligning your work experience to a new field or job title
Part 4:
Let’s come back to work experience. You’ve found your lead, but what about the rest?
We’ll continue sifting through your work experience to populate the rest of this section.
Work experience provides context for your skills and qualifications. It allows employers to understand the practical application of the knowledge and abilities you possess. By describing your responsibilities and achievements in previous positions, you give potential employers a clearer picture of how you can contribute to their organization.
Since your work experience is the largest section of your resume, we will devote 2 sessions to this topic.
During this session we will:
Consolidate your work experience into STAR (Situation Task Action Result) worthy statements
Ensure your work experience aligns with your professional story
Part 5:
Your resume is often the first point of contact with a potential employer. A readable resume creates a positive first impression while demonstrating your professionalism and attention to detail. It shows that you have taken the time and effort to present your information in a clear and organized manner.
Scannability for resumes can mean 1 of 2 things:
How effectively can an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) identify keywords and criteria, resulting in your resume reaching the hands of a decision-maker?
How quickly can the decision-maker identify relevant information on your resume, allowing them to understand your value at-a-glance?
During this session we will:
Evaluate the readability and scannability of your resume
Leverage our findings to optimize your resume’s formatting
Part 6:
Including personal elements in your resume can help you stand out from other candidates. It allows you to showcase your unique qualities, experiences, and interests that make you distinct and memorable. This differentiation can help you leave a lasting impression on employers, and increase your chances of being selected for an interview.
During this session we will discuss tactics for integrating your personal flair, such as:
Education
Awards received
Speaking engagements
Published works
Relevant hobbies
This is the finishing touch on your resume. We’ll leverage your history to find what makes you shine!
This 6-part live coaching series will help you create a standout resume, portfolio, and LinkedIn that opens doors in tech.
